Reason for abnormal AST with treatment on PROSCAR.

Resolved question:
My Father didn't go to the Doctor very often. In fact he hadn't gotten blood work for many years. His Doctor recommended it but he never got it done. He is 82 y.o. He is relatively healthy. He only take proscar. He did consent to labs and they were normal one year ago. He recently got labs again and the only thing abnormal was his Ast 46. His Doctor recommended repeating labs in 4-6 months. Is this reasonable?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
AST 46, indicates mild liver injury which can be age related or from the medicines he has been taking.
It is better to repeat the labs once in 6 months, considering his age since he is already 82.
But it is a very good sign that all his reports are normal.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
