Hello. Thanks for providing the additional information. However you have not provided all the information I wanted. Since you did not mention the duration, I presume you have chronic symptoms and no blood or mucus in stool. Presuming these and with your history in view, it looks like you have Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) which is common and benign (harmless) condition where the intestines are hyper-reactive to small stresses. IBS gets worsened with both physical and mental stress. A few tests are to be done before calling it as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. 1. Complete blood count. 2. Stool test. 3. Blood glucose level. 4. Thyroid function test. 5. Test for celiac disease. [IgA anti tissue transglutaminase (anti-tTG)] 6. Colonoscopy.
Please consult your gastroenterologist for these tests. If IBS is confirmed, he / she will prescribe appropriate medications to resolve your symptoms such as, tablet Dicyclomine 20 mg orally four times daily.
Meanwhile please also take the following measures.
1. Take about a teaspoon of psyllium husk(Metamucil/Isabgol) and dissolve it in a glass of water. After15-20 minutes, you can drink the mixture. Do this for about 2-3 times daily for a week. This will provide symptomatic relief.
2. You need to avoid stress. So please engage yourself in meditation, yoga, aerobics or anything else that helps you to relax. If your stress remains high even after these measures, you need to consult a Psychiatrist for anti-anxiety medication and therapy.
3. Once the diarrhea is taken care of, you will gradually start putting on weight. Please make sure you take regular highly nutritious and balanced meals. You can increase the portion size of each meal to help in weight gain.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr.R.K.
