Risk of AUTISM in pregnancy with AUTISTIC brother.

Resolved question:
Hello! I am pregnant and we just found out we are having a boy! The CVS test came back normal but we are concerned about Autism. My husband's brother is Autistic and so is his second cousin. I am 40 and my husband is 44. My mother has clinical depression but other than that, no other disorders on my side. We were wondering statistically what the chances of our child being diagnosed with Autism would be. We know it is 1 in 66 for boys in the general US population....thank you in advance!

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
The risk of autism in your child would not be higher, because of family history of autism (on your husband's side), as the genetic defects in autism usually occur due to new mutations rather than transmission from parents.
So, the risk would still be about 1 in 68.
I hope it helps.
Best wishes,

Thank you for your reply! I appreciate your input, as it is hard to know what research is valid and what is skewed. New research states that the odds are now 1 in 42 for boys, is this true? Thank you again for your time!

Can you send me a link of that new research?
I have not heard anything like that in the CMEs.
Regards.
