Felt something slip during masturbating with discoloured penis.

Resolved question:
I was masturbating a few weeks ago when I felt something slip. At first my penis was just discolored but now its uncomfortable. What can I expect to happen and how long should it take to recover?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Let me start by addressing your primary concern.
Regarding HCV, firstly the chances of HCV infection through sexual intercourse is very low. In fact not many cases have been reported exclusively due to sexual activity. The primary mode of transmission is through IV drug abuse and blood transfusion. There is only a slight risk for people with high sexual risk group, such as anal intercourse, multiple sexual partners, e.t.c
HCV RNA,a polymerase test can detect HCV within a week or two. I assume that's what was done for you. The antibody test can be delayed, but not beyond 6-8 weeks. So since it is negative at the end of 4 months, you should not worry any more.
Regarding other tests Chlamydia, Syphilis, and Gonorrhoea, being bacterial infections, are detected within a week's time. So again there is no concern here.
Even with herpes, at the end of 4 months, if the test is negative, and also with no history of outbreaks, herpes can also be safely ruled out.
HIV, especially the 4th generation test, it can detect HiV positive individuals within a month of exposure ( 95 % sensitivity ), and at the end of 3 months ( 100 % sensitivity ), which means it has been ruled out for you too.
So effectively all STD's have been ruled out for you.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Thank you very much doctor. Great response.
The exposure 4 months ago was actually not a sexual exposure, however I received the rabies immunoglobulin vaccine due to possible rabies exposure. Apparently this vaccine is made from blood donors and I was advised there is always a slight risk of blood borne diseases from this injection (Even though they screen for blood diseases). I wanted to ensure I didn't contract anything from this injection. Does this change any of your answers above regarding Hep C?
Thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for the follow up query. I can understand that piece of information may make you anxious.
You are right in that the rabies immunoglobulin is made from donated human blood. Some human blood products have transmitted viruses to the people who received them, although the risk is low. Even though I cannot provide an exact number or percentage, I would like to reassure you that the frequency of such occurences was common prior to 1992 when we were not aware viruses could be transmitted through donated blood and blood products. Since then, rigorous testing is applied to all the products recived to ensure to keep the transmission risk low.
However, what has been mentioned in the previous answer regarding testing for HCV aso remains true. Since your tests have come back negative, the possibility of transmission of HCV is hihgly unlikely. Also since the other diseases you were concerned about (HIV, Herpes..) are primarily transmitted via sexual contact with an infected person, your chances for getting this through the vaccine are non existent.
Hope this helps, feel free to discuss further

Thanks doctor.
My partner also got tested this week and her results were negative for all STDs. We have been together for 4 months now. Assuming she hasn't been with anyone else since our relationship started (which I'm very sure about) are we both ok to have unprotected sex moving forward?
Thanks.

Hello,
Yes since you both have been cleared of STD's, you both can have unprotected sex and move forward.
Regards.
