Resolved question:
I took 10 mg of ambien 3 1/2 hours ago to get to sleep. I received an important phone call (which I don't remember much of because I had taken the ambien) and tried to go to bed an hour after I took it but it felt that it had worn off. I don't feel anything now and am wide awake. Is it safe if I took another ambien 10mg and if not would it be safe if I used benedryl?

More than 10mg of Ambien (Zolpidem) is not recommended in a span of 12 hours. Moreover it might not be beneficial too. However you can take Benadryl and there is no reported interactions or side effects for both.
