Hello,

Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.

Rash over the face with nausea and headache could be due to various reasons like heat rash, food allergies, viral meningitis, allergy to substance like chemical or insect bite etc.

It is difficult to assess the nature of the rash with out direct examination. It is not due to use of ciprofloxacin, as he has been using it since two weeks.

Also, as he has history of stroke it is important to get examined by your GP. Stroke causes increase in intracranial pressure which can manifest with headache and nausea. Tension headaches might also present in a similar way.

Is the rash localized over the face or is it progressing? Is the rash raised/ flat/ blistered/ blotchy?

Here are my recommendations:
1. He should inspect any sign of insect bite or make a note of any foods or chemicals that could have preceded the rash. Adequate hydration should be maintained.

2. Taking over the counter antihistamines like cetrizine 10mg twice daily for three days should help.

3. It is important to get examined by your GP, considering his previous history of stroke. Depending upon the findings of clinical examination blood work and other investigations can be considered.

4. Also, should inform his treating doctor if he is on any anticoagulant drugs and a coagulation profile should be done.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask if you have queries.
Thank you.

This is an image of the rash. It is only only in the right side of his face from above his eye onto the cheek.

Hello

Thanks for posting your query.

I can understand your concern.

He seems to have got purpura. Purpura is when blood leaks from the capillaries into the skin.

It could happen either post trauma or due to meningococcal infection or due to a medication.

Since he is also getting nausea and headache, I would recommend that he should visit the ER as soon as possible as a meningitis is one possibility to be ruled out.

Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care
