Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

Resolved Question:

I have been diagnosed with PID. I am taking Ceftum 500 1 tab twice daily, Doxt 100 1 tab twice daily and Metrogyl 400 1 tab thrice daily. is that sufficient? should my husband be taking some medicines as well? I gave birth to a baby 1 year back. My symptoms include heavy bleeding since menstruation re-started (8 months after delivery), severe chronic lower abdominal cramping pain, chills, lower back pain, fatigue.

Hello
Thanks for writing to us at DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.
Treatment for PID depends on the offending organism.
It is important to have a vaginal swab and culture and then take treatment accordingly.
Please let me know if you had a vaginal swab taken and then was treatment given?
Generally, the sexual partner / husband also has to be thoroughly treated and unprotected sex should be avoided till the symptoms subside in both partners.
Your husband should be screened for STDs also
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further with any queries.
Thankyou

Hello Doctor, Thanks a lot for your prompt reply. No vaginal swab was not taken. I have already started taking the antibiotics, what to do now?
Which medicines should my husband take, please suggest? And how to screen for STDs?
Regards,
Sebanti

Expert:  Dr. Aarti Vazirani replied 3 Days.

STD screening involves a thorough genital examination, a vaginal / urethral swab culture.
As you have already started the antibiotics, do not worry, please complete the course.
The drugs cover most pelvic infective organisms.
Ask your husband to take a FAS - 3 kit / AF - 3 kit ( containing just one dose each of fluconazole, azithromycin and secnidazole ).
This should be fine .
Have protected sex using condoms till your antibiotic course is completed.
Take care.
Thankyou

Hello Doctor,
Thank you for your prompt and helpful reply.
Please elaborate on the FAS - 3 kit or AF - 3 kit, how to take it, the dosage, where to get it and such things.

Thank you.

Patient replied :

FAS 3 kit is easily available at any reliable pharmacy.
There are 4 tablets totally - one of Azithromycin, one of Fluconazole, and 2 tablets of Secnidazole.
1. Azithromycin has to be taken on empty stomach early in the morning ( before breakfast ).
2. Fluconazole can be taken after lunch.
3. Two white tablets ( secnidazole ) both have to be taken together after dinner.
So you will complete all 4 tablets ( the whole kit ) in one day.
Take care
