Dense breast with BENIGN LYMPH NODE in MAMMOGRAM.

Resolved Question:

I had a mammogram last month (I started getting them in 2001 due to an aunt having breast cancer); the results were as follows:

"The breasts are extremely dense which decreases the sensitivity of mammography. Asymmetry within the mid-right breast at the posterior nipple line does not persist on the exaggerated CC or MLO
view and does not have a correlate on the tomogram. this most likely represents summation of breast parenchyma. There is mass within the superior right breast on MLO which is unchanged since 2011 and may represent a benign lymph node. No suspicious masses, architectural distortion, or microcalcifications are identified."

They have never discussed the presence of the mass with me before, though they don't seem to think it is significant. I'm not so much concerned about that as I am with the density and their ability to detect any cancer early. Are there other tests they can do periodically to ensure that they detect any changes early enough?

Hello,
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
As per your description, there is no lump in the breast. One lymph node is present and it is stationary.
As there is no lesion with Micro calcification, there is nothing to worry.
Regarding early detection, you can go for BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes mutation test as your aunt had breast cancer. If it is positive, it is better to have an MRI of the breast along with Mammogram yearly. Both MRI and Mammogram have to be taken .
Any suspicious lesion has to be removed and sent for histopathological examination.
I advice you to get FNAC ( Fine Needle aspiration Cytology ) of the lymph node.If it is due to infection, antibiotics may help.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
