Fungal infection of the scrotum.

Resolved Question:

Hallo,My name is steve 25 years of age,I have had this problem of a smelly sticky scrotum for the last 13 years,I'm not sure where or why the smell is there but have a feeling it could be a fungal or bacterial infection,13 years ago I was diagnosed with acute transverse, which affected by bladder muscles leading to loss of urine control, although with time I have managed to control it gradually,I feel the scrotal wall may have been urine soaked and that the same has been the reason for the smell & stickiness,I have tried baby powder and some deodorant but nothing seems to be working,I do sweat a lot though. Please advice me on the best medication to solve this issue since its really affecting my career.

Dear Steve,

I have reviewed your complaints and it appears that there is soiling of your scrotum with the urine and hence the skin as become macerated. Constant exposure to moisture is a indeed a risk factor for fungal infection (as you have rightly pointed out). But do not worry this problem can be well managed.

These are my recommendations for you :

1. You need to keep the area dry as much as possible
2. You can apply a local antifungal powders such as Abzorb or Mycoderm under the care of your doctor. Do it for 3 months twice daily and you shall be fine.
3. Make sure you are using proper fitting cotton underwears. Fit should ensure that your scrotum is not rubbing on your thighs while walking.

Hope this helps

Thank you
