Severe neuropathy

Resolved Question:

I have severe neuropathy and I cannot walk (confined to a wheelchair. Is there a chance that I can recover to be able to walk again, at least with a walker?

The most likely cause of your neuropathy is diabetes mellitus. The treatment consists of pregabalin capsules (to relieve neuropathic pain), vitamin B12/pyridoxine/alpha lipoic acid supplements (to help in nerve regeneration), and physiotherapy (muscle strengthening exercises).

If the type of neuropathy is not typical of diabetes, then, a nerve biopsy may be done to exclude other causes such as CIDP or vasculitis.

Diabetic neuropathy does improve, however, the recovery is partial and not complete. So, you may be able to walk with treatment.
