Side effects of stopping BIRTHCONTROL PILL with PARANOIA.

Resolved Question:

i went to my obgyn a little over two weeks ago after some pre-period spotting and a late cycle and had blood taken to check my thyroid and was put on kelnor 1/35. i've been taking it daily for two weeks and i've had bleeding for the entire span of the time, which i expected. however, i also had pretty noticeable blurry vision, and recently my anxiety has gotten very, very bad.

i've struggled with both anxiety and depression in the past. i was diagnosed with GAD and was also suspected of having panic disorder, though there was no official diagnosis given for that. i don't take any medication for either because most of the time it's tolerable. however about three days ago i began to have very drastic anxiety and mood swings, teariness, and today i've had nausea and loss of appetite and a very scary 45min period where i felt very "off" and on the verge of a panic attack. the anxiety and depression are crushing; not suicidal levels but i feel like it's killing me. i can only describe it as a very persistent and strong feeling of discomfort, excessive and unstoppable rumination, and paranoia (not the "people are coming to get me; big brother is watching" paranoia, but more like i'm suddenly deathly afraid of being replaced by those i love). my usual coping mechanisms aren't really helping to calm it any.

my question is should i stop the birth control or try to truck through it? i already took tonight's pill. i have 6 more until i hit the placebo pill week as this is my first packet. i'm a little afraid that if i switch to a different birth control it'll just be worse than it already is and it's already pretty bad. i'm not taking the birth control for any medical reasons and there's no risk of pregnancy right now, so the side effects seem to be outweighing the need for the pills. i've been told that three months is period to allow your body to adjust to the side effects, but if they're this upsetting, should i bother waiting the three months?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
You are only 22, and it is a bit extreme to put you on birth control for just one episode of spotting and a delayed cycle.
That may happen once in a while to anybody.
Have you ever had menstrual issues earlier ?
If not, I do not think you qualify for these pills if this was just a one - off event.
ANd yes, the side effects are bad, as you are describing them.
There is no point switching birth control, or stopping it cold turkey.
Both options will worsen the scenario.
The only recommendation is to truck it through and finish the pack, and take the placebo pills as well.
Then take that time to reconsider.
Either give yourself a couple of months more, on the pill, to see if your body adjusts to the hormones, or do not start the next pack.
I hope this makes sense ?
All the best.
please feel free to discuss further.
