Hello Yuliya,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
Yes , the emergency contraception pill will probably alter your hormones for a cycle or two.
It can cause withdrawal bleed.
It might prepone, postpone or alter the amount or duration of your next period.
There is nothing you can do except - take no more hormones.
Give your body a rest.
Use effective barrier methods.
Eat well, sleep on time, and do not stress out.
You will be back to your normal cycles soon.
All the best.
please feel free to discuss further.

Dr. Aarti,
I am planning to get pregnant in the future, maybe even soon. My question is, how safe is getting pregnant 2-3 months after having taking the emergency contraception pill? I have heard that there is a high risk of having an ectopic pregnancy. How many regular/normal cycles should I wait to try getting pregnant without a high risk of an ectopic pregnancy?

Thanks

Hi,
There is no such concern after using the emergency contraceptive pill.
You can get pregnant in the next cycle itself.
Please do not worry about it.
Take care.

Patient replied :

Dr, I have heard that because the emergency contraception creates hormonal disbalance, a soon pregnancy after that (2-3months) can lead to an ectopic pregnancy. Is it true? And it is better to wait longer? Or the likelihood of an ectopic pregnancy doesn't change after taking the emergency contraception a couple months earlier?

The emergency contraceptive pill has no effect on the incidence of ectopic pregnancy.

Hope that reassures you.
