Severe gall bladder pain which medication to take

Resolved Question:

I am having a gallbladder attack! Very uncomfortable very painful. I've gone to the emergency over 4 times in the past 2 months but they do sonograms and everything and they just send me home with pain killers and basically i am waiting my appointment for the gastrologist* I need to know which meds to take! I was given a perscription but i lost it so now all i have is hydrocodone and tramadol....i threw the dice and took the hydrocodone because last time tramadol didn;t help with the pain and i ended up in the e.r. because i didn't know if and when i shoudl take more. So i just took a hydrocodone...it's helping a little but i need to know when i can take some more! i want this pain gone ;.; it says as needed for pain every 8 hours...can i take one more now? or in 4 hours? or can i also take a tramadol? i don't remember what they perscibed to me because i lost it but i still have tramadol from a month ago from my 1st gallbladder attack but this new perscription (that i lost) was supposed to be stronger...please help i am in pain! ion;t even spell check this.

Hello,
Thank you for the consult :

Taking Hydrocodone and Tramadol together is not recommended, as both as Opioids.

So you can continue Hydrocodone. The maximum amount of acetaminophen for adults is 1 gram (1000 mg) per dose and 4 grams (4000 mg) per day.

See what dosage you are having and make sure you are not taking 4 grams/ day. Minimum 4-6 hours interval is needed between the doses.

Hope this is clear.

IF there is server pain you can take an over the counter pain medication along with it.

A NSAID drug (like Dicofenac 50 mg ) or anti spasmodic like - Dicyclomine (Bentyl) can also be taken for better pain relief. But please consult your GP before taking these meds.

As you might have read in our terms and conditions, we DO NOT give prescriptions. Please follow these recommendations after consulting your GP.

PLEASE feel free to ask more clarifications. Thank you.
