Burning pain in vestibular area, on CLOTRIMAZOLE. YEAST infection?

Resolved Question:

!!! If possible, I would like to address this question to Obgyn Dr. Karen Weldon !!!

Doctor,

I am a 26 year old female living in Finland who 3 years old patientago started suffering from burning pain in the vestibular area (possibly vulvar vestibulitis syndrome/vestibulodynia). I don't know what caused it but most probably it was due to yeast infection or while using treatment for yeast infection (clotrimazole vaginal pill). With time the condition improved but I was never fully fine. A few weeks ago I tried a vaginal natural cream. After applying the cream It started burning intensively so I washed it off but the burning did not stop. I was worried about getting a yeast infection so I tried clotrimazole oral pill as well. I went to my gynaecologist. She could see some redness in the vestibular area and she prescribed a cortisone cream which I used but it did not help. I’m having constant burning all the time. Sitting hurts very much. My gynaecologist does not know what to do.

What do you think could be the cause of the burning pain?
What would you suggest that I do?

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I think it could either be a flare up of vestibulodynia or a new infection.
Get a vaginal swab done to rule out infection.
Avoid using new products on the area, as it is so sensitive.
In fact, use nothing.
Just clean with water.
Avoid irritant fabrics for intimate wear, stay off talcs, scented toilet paper, detergents, cleansers etc.
Use water as a lubricant during sex.
Get your partner screened for all infections.
Use an ice pack for the burning.
Local lignocaine gel which is a local anesthetic can help to control pain, please discuss this with your doctor, and the use of oral carbamazepine also.
Take care.
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.
