Can chest congestion, cough, runny nose and lethargy be due to HIV?

Resolved Question:

I recently had protected sex with a woman of high risk of HIV infection, during the vaginal intercourse I paper rely ripper her vagina and cause her to bleed on the condom. I took the condom off immediately and left but was unable to shower for two hours after the encounter. I searched my pubic area and could not see any blood but I was drinking so I'm not entirely certain. The encounter was approximately 30 days ago and now I have symptoms of chest congestion, cough, runny nose and lethargy, should I be worried about ars or HIV imfection?

I understand your concern.

The risks of acquiring HIV infection is nullified once the condom is used properly. However, just to advise one thing : There can be minor cuts in your scrotal mucosa and infection can still spread even though you're wearing a condom. I am not sure how much risk that lad had of having AIDS, and moreover she bled. Even though you had a condom on, i will suggest you better get an HIV combo test done, which is a next generation investigation modality and is capable of detecting HIV in your bloodstream from as early as 15th day after exposure.

Even though the risk is fairly less, just to be on the safer side i would advise you to get the test done. Following HIV, symptoms can take a long time to appear. So your current infection seems more of an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection ( URTI ). So don't relate this infection with risk of HIV.

Hope this helps.
