Can TENOTOMY be reversed with LABRUM TEAR, TENDINOSIS.

Resolved Question:

hello, This is my Postoperative Diagnosis: Right shoulder grade 1 labrum tear, biceps tendinosis , and rotator cuff tear. Supraspinatis. Procedure performed: Surgical arthroscopy of the right shoulder with debridement of the labral tear, biceps tenotomy and rotator cuff repair.

I am a 54 year old female. I work for the USPS as a letter carrier. I use my right arm thousands of times per day. I live in warm climate so go sleeveless quite often. 4 weeks into recovery and I just now discovered that my doctor had performed the tenotomy instead of a tenodesis. Why? Can this be reversed? I don't go back to my doctor until September 23 and this is very upsetting to me. I was injured at work so this is a workers compensation case.
Thanks so much.

Hello.
Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.
I have read your question with diligence.
The biceps tenodesis is performed in massive tear of rotator cuff tear
.
There is no difference in strength after tenotomy in comparison to tenodesis except slight cosmetic deformity.
Some studies questions about role of tenodesis.
Hope his will help you,
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Patient replied :

Hi Dr. Thanks for your reply. I am concerned about the cosmetic deformity and my strength. Can this surgery be reversed and is it customary for a doctor to perform this surgery without informing the patient of the risks? I would've liked to been given a choice. thanks again
and to add to the question my doctor said my tear was about 99%. hanging on by a thread.
