Cause for painful itchy bumps in bottocks.

Resolved Question:

I have had these itchy bumps for months now and it seems to be getting worse. It looks like it's spreading and getting itchier. The bumps are under my buttocks, in the crack and on my left buttock. There are also some on my inner thigh, but those are not itchy. When I tried to pop one there was no pus, but it bled a lot. Some of the bumps are painful. I really don't know what it is but they are really ugly and annoying

Hello.
Thanks for posting your query on DoctorSpring.com.
I can understand your concern.
You seem to be having folliculitis which is a bacterial infection of the skin.
I would recommend application of mupirocin cream twice a day for a week. This should help in resolving the lesions. Also in case of itching, you can take an oral anti histamine like Tablet. Claritin 10 mg, once in the night for a week.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
Take care.

Patient replied :

Where can I get this medicine? Is it over the counter?

Hello. Thanking you for posting the follow up.
Yes this is over the counter and you can get it from any local pharmacist.
Please take the medicine and let me know in a couple of days time if there's improvement.
Regards

I went to the pharmacy and they said that medicine is prescription only. Does neosporin work as well or will I have no choice but to go to the doctor? What causes this infection?

Hello

Hello. Thanks for your reply.

Neosporin does work, you can surely try that out.

A bacteria called staphylococcus aureus causes this infection. It can happen in conditions of heat and humidity.
Feel free to discuss further,
