Fever, sinus pressure after SEPTOPLASTY and FESS SURGERY.

Resolved Question:

Hi, I had a septoplasty, limited FESS surgery in November 2013, about a month ago I had a (probably)viral infection that lasted for a week or so. I had mild fever (around 38-38.6) for about five days. On day 4 i went to doctors and has been prescribed with Augmentin which I took for 5 days. About 3 weeks ago i developed bad sinus pressure, dizziness, lightheadness episodes. Blood tests showed low platelet level (on the border, 148) I've been diagnosed with chronic frontal sinusitis (MRI scan) with total opacification on the left side. I don't have any fever and not on any medicine at the moment (have been prescribed augmenting again yesterday), but my dizziness hasn't disappeared. On the top of that i've started to get sudden spikes in blood pressure (very short lasted, blood pressure spikes to 140/100 and comes back to normal (high lower reading)). Are there any further test to be done to diagnose my condition or all of these could be possibly due to frontal sinuses infection/ or ear infection. Shall I take another course of antibiotics?

Hello.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
Let me recount your history. You had a septoplasty, limited FESS surgery in November 2013. You had mild fever 1 month ago and you had Augmentin for 5 days, following that you had dizziness and lightheadness.
At present, you do not have a fever.
Your platelet count of 1.48 lakh can be taken as normal (1.5 lakh is normal).
These symptoms of dizziness and lightheadedness may be side effect of Augmentin itself. Although your MRI shows opacification of left frontal sinus, you do not have obvious symptoms of sinusitis (including left side headache, nasal obstruction, purulent nasal discharge and fever). However, if you can scan and send your MRI film or its report, I will able to comment more definitely about it.
Mild giddiness and lightheadedness may be due to the high blood pressure. Your blood pressure needs to be checked by a local physician. At present you don’t require any more investigation. And I also don’t advise you for another course of antibiotic.
Hope this helps. Feel free to discuss further.
Thank you.
