HODGKINS LYMPHOMA in biopsy form lump. Negative CT scan.

Resolved Question:

Hello, my name is Derek Rasmussen from Canada and I am 29 years old patientold. I had a lunp removed from behind my right ear and it was sent for study. It can back positive for Hodgkins Lymphoma. So I was Sent for a CT scan. The results came in and showed that I have no cancer in my lymphatic System. Exact quote "no abnormalitys found with in the lymphatic system, unremarkable" so now I got a phone call from an oncologist who is sending me for lots and lots of blood work and a PET scan.. So my question is this... Should I be worried ? I was so happy that the CT scan came up negative. And now I'm hit with more scans and tests... So what does it mean that the ct scan came back as negative for cancer ? After the biopsy was positive.

Dear Mr. Rasmussen,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Hodgkin Lymphoma is a curable malignancy. I hope the histopathology was confirmed with an IHC (Immunohistochemistry) test.
PET CT scan is to find out if you have any other foci of the disease, for staging the disease.
CT scans are less sensitive than PET CT for the disease. Hence Oncologists all over the world prefer a PET CT scan than a regular CT scan.
Please be assured that the treatment will consist of limited cycles of chemotherapy and Radiation to limited region in case of early stage which shall be identified only by a PET CT scan.
Hope your doubts are cleared.
Regards
