Nipple seems harder, sore with cheesy scent. Normal?

Resolved Question:

I am a 23 year old female, slender, healthy, no children, and no medical history. I have a question about my breast/nipple. My left nipple seems harder/thicker when squeezing it and it is kind of sore when doing so. My right nipple feels flat when squeezing it and is not sore AT ALL. My left nipple is a tad inverted, and I think it has always been this way but not for sure. My left nipple has a cheesey scent to it too. I can't tell if there is discharge, but it sometimes is a bit crustier than the other. I just want to know if it is normal for both nipples to feel different like I explained?? The left breast entirely feels more sore after feeling it too and the right breast feels absolutely no pain.
I asked a doctor online last week and he said this was normal, but the left also feels lumpier/ridgier/rockier than the right. The right breast feels more sandy and slightly pebbly. The doctor said it was normal for breasts not to feel symmetrical and that one can normally feel lumpier. Does this sound right? My breasts look the same size.

My main question is about one nipple feeling thicker and sore when squeezing it while the other one has no pain and is not thick, but do you think my symptoms sound cancerous or concerning?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
Yes it is normal for one breast to feel more sore than the other sporadically, but not always.
I don't quite agree that it may feel assymetrical and the fact that it's normal.
There are certain factors which points towards mastitis such as the cheesy scent, crusty discharge, and slightly lumpier.
There are various possibilities such as fibrocystic breast ( cyclical and hormonal ), mastitis, intraductal infection, e.t.c
I will suggest you get an Ultrasound of the breast, and that will give a much clearer picture. If there are evidences of infection, or if there is a fibroadenoma, appropriate treatment can be started before it gets too big. Fibroadenoma is a benign swelling, which occurs because of hormonal disturbances, and in initial atages can be medically managed.
Hence the prudent choice here would be to get an ultrasound of your left breast and follow up the reports with a general surgeon.
You can also upload the reports here when you have them.
Regards.
