Recurring episodes of pain with multiple medications.

Resolved Question:

I suffer from chronic severe pain all day everyday, I've been diagnosed and mis-diagnosed with lupus, lime disease, and recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my major life events were my epidural in which the doctor messed up twice on, a major car accident which i was ejected from the car almost killed landed on my head and broke my nose, then had the surgery for my nose, ever since these events i suffered daily from pain, spent all my time in & out of the emergency room & started eating motrin and alleve like m&ms so my doctor freaked and started me on oxycodone 5mg 3x daily then a 2yrs he put me on endocet 10mg 3x daily over time the pills started wearing off very quickly, so yesterday he started me on morphine sulfate 15mg slow release 2x daily, i started my first dose at 4pm yesterday with no relief, didnt sleep anything at all last nite becuase of the pain, took my 2nd dose around 4am again with no relief at all i kept my husband up all night crying in pain i felt so bad, by the time it started getting time for my 3rd dose i called my doctor he wasnt in so they scheduled me an appt for tom, i remembered that i had 4 endocet 10mg pills left from my last script, so when it was time to take my 3rd dose i took it with a morphine sulfate sr 15mg, after 30mins i finally started feeling some relief its been 4 hours and i feel much better, what do i tell me doctor when i go back to see him?

Hi,

I would recommend that you tell the doctor things exactly how they happened. It's important for the doctor to know what medications you have taken and in what doses. It will help in better treatment of your condition.

Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes chronic pain and fatigue. It is generally associated with extreme sleep difficulty. The management of pain in fibromyalgia is very difficult as there is no particular organic cause of pain. It needs a combination of opioids and behavioral techniques.

I would recommend the following=

1)Consult psychiatrists who might be able to help you in decrease the symptoms of fatigue and pain. There are various behavioral techniques that decrease the sensitivity of brain to the pain.

2)You can consult a therapist whom might assist you in various relaxation techniques such as muscle relaxation and meditation

3)Decrease the intake of caffeine, alcohol and nicotine as they sensitize the body to pain and increases insomnia.

4)Try to cultivate hobbies to take the mind off stress and fatigue. Gardening, cooking, painting has been shown to decrease symptoms of fibromyalgia.

5)I would also recommend you to follow a strict regimen of diet and exercise so that you can condition your body to prevent episodes of fatigue and pain.

Thank you.
