Risk of trasmitting COLDSORES by touching different body parts.

Resolved Question:

I get cold sores / fever blisters on my lips every now and then and I was wondering how careful I need to be when I do not have an obvious blister showing on my lips? I mean when I touch my lips how careful do I need to be about touching other body parts like my genitals or my eyes? How careful do I need to be when re-using a wet wash rag more than once on myself like when washing my face? I know I must be careful when there is a sore there, but what about when there is not a sore present? I've heard from various doctors that I can shed the virus asymptomaticly when there is no blister present so I'm wondering how honestly careful I need to be when I don't currently have a blister showing?

Hello,
Thanks for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
If you have blisters and if they break open the infected fluid comes out. You can spread the infection to the other parts of the body where there is a cut surface, injury or mucous membranes such as inside mouth if you touch them. If you don't have blisters you don't need to worry.
Thanks

So to clarify, I should only worry about spreading the virus to other parts of my body when I have an active sore? I can safely touch my lips and then other parts of my body or reuse a wet wash cloth right now without any real concern so long as I don't have a obvious sore?
