Small red bump in pubic area

Resolved Question:

I recently got a small red bump in my pubic area, that I think only sprouted after I went for a 4 mile run. I wear spandex when I run and it might've been rubbing the hair follicle.

I am sexually active so I wanted to see if this looked like something that could potentially be a std. It's only one bump, not several and it doesn't look like it's a blister of any kind.

I trimmed the hair in the area to get a closer look at the bump. It doesn't itch and isn't painful. I started putting hydrocortisone cream on it.

Thanks for posting your query at I can understand your concern.

This looks like folliculitis which is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle.

Application of neosporin cream twice a day for a week week resolve it. It doesn't look like a STD. You can discontinue the application of hydrocortisone cream.

Hope this helped, Please let me know if you have any queries.

Take care

Thanks very much for your response Dr. Banodkar! I really appreciate your help. I'll buy some neosporin to use instead.

Do STDs, like herpes, typically form in groups of small blisters and are painful? I'm just wondering.

Thanks again,

Thanks for your reply.

Herpes presents in the form of fluid filled blisters which are grouped together and are painful.
