Surgery on stubbed toe and persisting pain and numbness

Resolved Question:

11 months ago stubbed toe on brick step. Had surgery on it about a month later because found out tendons and ligaments in toe no longer holding bones together. Doctor went in and took out part of the bone and reattached things. Since then, one side of my toe always has numb feeling. Have a lot of pain when walking, putting on tennis shoes, anything toughing toe, or any prolonged activity on foot. Recently doctor told me I should take Gabapentin for the pain....twice a day forever. I can not do this. Took for two days and had horrible side affects. Is there something, even more surgery, that can solve my pain quickly and more permanently?

Yes you do have better options than Gabapentin !

Looking at your details it looks that most probably you have injured your digital nerve. There are some physiotherapy treatment including the use of TENS which can relieve the pain.

For an accurate diagnosis a MRI might be needed. If there is no relief with pain meds, Physical therapy you should consider getting an MRI done. One Surgical option would be arthrodesis or fusion of joint. In this reference your doctor may help you. Bottom line is there are surgical options (specific details depends upon identifying the cause of the pain)
