Weight loss with HEP C, SOVALDI and RIBAPAK.

Hi,

My Dad (62 year old Male who is 6 foot and 1.5 inches) has Hep C and was on Sovaldi and RibaPak for 24 weeks and has noticed that he has lost some weight (he weighed about 200 pounds before he started and is now about 193 pounds). He stopped the regiment on October 9th. Is this normal to have lost weight even after almost 2 months of being off these medications?

Sovaldi does not cause weight loss. But Ribapak may cause weight loss.
But weight loss even after almost 2 months of being off these medications cannot be attributed to them.
Give him nutritious diet. In spite of enough calories if he is losing/not gaining weight then further evaluation should be done.
HVC infected individuals can develop cirrhosis and liver cancer also.
Get an ultrasound scan of the abdomen and serum alpha fetoprotein test done.
