Hi Doctor

My Grandfather is 70 and he recently started having problems with his bladder wher he could not hold it anymore and somtimes just wet himself without even knowing and then just sudenly he started forgeting things at first like where he lived and then he started to forget all his children and grand children he also strugled to eat and he just went worse now the doctors are saying he is in a semi coma they did a lumber punch and said he has severe brain damaged bit it seems like he is still responding when we talk he turn his head and he would squeeze our hands and even scratch his nose from time to time they did not do a cat scan they say there is nothing to be done for him we must just wait until he is gone he is on no machines just a drip for feeding. can they see brain damage by just doing a lumber punch? all of the above hapened within 2 weeks

I have noted your grandfather's symptoms and present condition. It is unfortunate that he is worsening and doctors have given no hope for his improvement.

He seems to be suffering from a rapidly progressive dementia. I agree that a CT or MRI scan of the brain should be done to assess the extent of brain damage.

Lumbar puncture can prove a brain infection, but no further information on brain damage comes from it.

Thanks Doctor I Apreciate your input atached is his file and a sheet with more test that they are going to run when he started to loose his memory he was in the garden and he got very exited when he saw the rose bushes he kept on saying that it was a bunch of wild dear I did not know that dementia could spread so quickly He did suffer some trauma latley they had an armed robbery where they were held at gun point but he wasent harmed just my nephew was shot in the stomach and his sister recently died could this have maybe caused it to spread so quickly Thank you for all the info Charl
