Worried about HIV after unsolicited oral sex

Resolved Question:

Hi, 3 weeks ago a man tried to give me oral sex with his mouth. He put his mouth round my penis and I instantly pulled it away. There was very brief contact though.

Now I seem to have a burning sensation in my penis and groin region, no pain when I pee though.

I'm worried I've caught HIV or something else.

Hello,

Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring

I assume this was the only non safe sexual encounter in the recent past. Oral sex has a low risk for STD transmission, especially when you are on the receiving end. Unless you had obvious wounds, cuts or abrasions on the penis HIV is less likely.

The burning sensation is unlikely to be STD related. You should take plenty of water for 2-3 days see if it persists. If that persists beyond a week you can go for Urine routine test and STD test. Mostly this will not be needed.

Patient replied :

I didn't have any obvious cuts, i did have a small pimple though.

Contact was only for 1-2 seconds until I told him to stop.

I am terrified of catching HIV. I've heard at can be transmitted via the tip of the penis, but would he basically have to pour blood right down there?

Would you recommend testing or do I need to relax?

Hello,

Do not worry your chances to contract HIV is extremely less. So no need for concern. HIV can be transmitted through abraded mucosal surfaces or non intact skin which could occur in tip of penis due to friction involved in sexual act. But since in your case the contact was for short time, with mouth there is no such concern.

Yes, as a measure of surety you can get tested for HIV. I recommend a simple HIV antibody test (ELISA) after 4-6 weeks of the incident.
