The problem in your eye looks like an extra growth in the conjunctiva, most common cause being pterygium. Eye drops and ointments will not give you a permanent relief from this problem. Eye drops will temporarily give you symptomatic relief from redness and itching. You might be needed to use the eye drops every now and then. Long term use of these eye drops or ointment is not safe for your eyes and it will only mask the symptoms with silent flaring of the underlying growth. It’s an extra growth of the conjunctiva and it needs to be removed with surgery. It will be only a minor surgery. So do not be very anxious or worried about undergoing this surgery. The surgery is usually on day case basis, you will be able to go back home the same day itself. And you might need a very brief period of rest. For the benefit of avoiding recurrence, i would strongly recommend you to for the surgery as advised by your ophthalmologist. The result or outcome of the surgery will be excellent. Meanwhile, avoid exposure to direct sunlight, dust, and smoke which can irritate your eyes more. Wear protective sun glasses when you go out. Avoid wearing contact lens. Wash your hands regularly, and do not rub your eyes. You can continue using the eye drops prescribed by your ophthalmologist until you book the appointment for surgery.
