Cigarette smoke contains around 400 chemicals, and constant exposure of the same can lead to progressive shortness of breath due to an allergic reaction of the same ( similar to asthma itself). This is a well known complication of smoking and the only way out of it is to stop smoking.
However, it will be prudent to have a chest x ray before we assume it to be something benign. hence i advice you to have a chest x-ray and to quit smoking.

Dear patient,
Any moulds in house can cause allergic symptoms and breathlessness. It can present acutely as bronchial asthma with wheeze and breathlessness or as sub acute hypersensitive pneumonitis with breathlessness. The most commonly implicated substances are house dust mite, and fungi in bathrooms.
