GI problems of nausea and abdominal pain

Resolved Question:

Hi,

thank you for the ability to write a quick question. i have ongoing GI problems, myself and my GI doc dont know what is wrong. here is my question: i had a CT scan of abdomen approx 2 years ago(because of a snowboard accident) that showed all clean. since then i have had a colonoscopy/endoscopy, abdominal ultrasound, h pylori, and a urine/fecal test...all have come back normal. BUT i have nausea quite a bit, and pain quite a bit(seems either one or the other almost every day). my question is, with all those tests should i still be concerned that something major is wrong? i'm assuming i have IBS but my diet has zero dairy, zero sugar, very minimal grains/wheat(pretty paleo). i am debating having another CT scan but dont want to due to the radiation(i have had a few). can i feel comfortable that since i had a CT 2 years ago that there isnt anything majorly wrong(ie. pancreas or liver)?

or should i just relax and feel pretty confident that nothing major is wrong? my GI doc tells me nothing is wrong, but i dont know. part of these problems come from my constant worrying i am sure.

Thank you for your help

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Though the CT scan of the abdomen 2 years of after taking the first one is not going to affect you very badly, I do not think there is a need for the second one as the first scan did not reveal anything - not even a doubtful lesion.

Moreover you do not have red signs like blood vomiting, low hemoglobin, blood in stools, black stools or weight loss and so you do not need any extensive tests to be done.

You can just relax and not worry about anything. I would recommend zofran or domperidone if nausea is disturbing.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.

thank you. one last question, I am having middle/left abdomen pain for about 10 days now. no red signs(no bloody stools, no vomiting, no dark stools). I was diagnosed with bacterial overgrowth just 10
weeks ago. I took Flagyl antibiotic and it worked great, I think I may have the same thing again. but I do not want to take another antibiotic. any reason why I keep getting these stomach infections or bacteria over growth? I take Restora(probiotic) everyday also. thank you for any advice or tips for me to have a 'normal' gut. I just want to be pain free & bloat free & worry free. thank you! and also, cud it possibly be my Abdominal Aorta? I don't have back pain but my pain is mid/left of abdomen.

Hi again,

Unless there is a risk factor, you may not get repeated attacks of SIBO ( small intestinal bacterial overgrowth).

Some of the risk factors are surgery done in the intestine, diabetes, long term intake of PPI medications like Prilosec etc.

You can get a breath test or get culture test of small intestinal aspirate done to see if this episode is due to SIBO. In SIBO you get abdominal bloating and loose stools.

Get tested for celiac if not done already.

Continue taking probiotics/yogurt.

I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K
