Gout and Methylpred dosing

Resolved Question:

Have history of gout. Had flare up last Tuesday in right foot and began round of Methylpred 4mg Pak. Just finished yesterday. Last night gout flared up in left foot. Is it safe to begin another round of Methylpred 4mg Pak so close to finishing the first round?

Steroids are not without side effects. I assume that you already know this. To answer you specific query, practically you can take one more MethyPred pack without any added risk.

The dose need to be tapered out. And further packs beyond this is not recommended.

However steroids are usually indicated in individuals who has poor response to Colchicine and NSAIDs. If the pain is not sever you should give a NSAID - pain medication a trial. This would be more ideal that repeated dose of steroids.


In case of any unusual symptom stop the medication and contact your Doctor.
