Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
The good thing is neurological causes have been ruled out, since you already had a battery of tests and everything came out to be negative.
The symptoms that you are having can be due to Eustachian Tube dysfunction. Did you have any recent ear infection/cold/sore throat/fever in the last one month? You need to get your checked for ET dysfunction and the vestibular system also needs to be evaluated.
I will also recommend you get your CBC checked to rule out anemia and serum electrolytes checked to rule out Hyponatremia, which can cause the weakness and minor slurring.
Do you have any history of Hypertension/ Diabetes? If you have checked your BP recently can you tell me the value?
Once you reply i will advise you further,
Regards.

Patient replied :

Dr Muthukrishnan, Thanks for your reply. I had a very bad "Summer" cold a couple of weeks before this all began.
I had some heart papitations along with minor hypertension about two years old patientago. I recently (1 week ago) stopped HP med (atenolol) because BP was quite low and that was causing faintness when I stood up. My blood pressures have been averaging 110 / 72 - 125 / 80 the last few days.
There's a family history of type II diabetes but my sugar tests have been normal.
What is Hyponatremia?

Hello,
The cold you had might have triggered the ear infection and ET blockage. Sometimes the only symptom one has after ET blockage is the constant ringing in ears, dizziness, light headedness, and problems with balance.
So i feel you need to get an ENT consult and get evaluated for the same.
Regarding your BP, it is under normal limits now and you can discuss it with your physician who prescribed you Atenolol at the first place whether any modification is required. Sometimes altering the dose is helpful, rather than completely stopping it. Because these medicines are cardio protective.
And i also want to see your serum electrolyte level. Hyponatremia means less sodium level in the blood, which can lead to the weakness as you mentioned.
Hope this was helpful,
Kindly let me know once you get the ear examination done.
Regards.
