Jelly like brown substances in stool with POLYPS. COLONOSCOPY.

Hi there,

40 year old male. Had 2 colon polyps removed when I was 34. Last colonoscopy was about 10 months ago and was all clear. Have health anxiety so much so that I freak out if I go to the loo more than once a day.
Today I just went again and took a look at the stool (which I usually try to avoid doing due to my health anxiety). I removed the stool from the water and notices some sort of almost jelly like brown substance on the stool in places. When I squished it on some toilet paper it definitely wasn't red but almost translucent and ligth brownish. I have been taking a daily Berroca lately and am also on topical antibiotics for a lesion on my leg (Fucidin).

Small hemorroids were noted at the colonoscopy. Also have been quite gassy after eating dinner the last couple of days and my son vomited in his bed last night.


You can kind of see what I am talking about in the attached. This is only part of the stool. It as more well formed originally. (Sorry - too much detail).

Should I be worried?

What you have mentioned and what is seen in the picture is mucus secreted by the large bowel. There is no need to worry.
Some about of mucus is normally secreted by the large bowel. But when there is inflammation as in infection the amount of mucus that is passed in stool in increased.
The stool appears well formed. So the bowel is less likely to be inflamed
You need not worry about it.
You can get stool analysis done
Take a course of probiotics.

Thank you. Do you think I should get stool analysis done? What would that be looking for?
Here is a picture of the most recent movement (sorry). I think that because the last one was in the water the amount of mucous looked worse. This one looks OK to me, but I am not a doctor! What do you think?

Hi,
Yes, if the symptoms are persisting stool analysis may be done. We have to look for pus cells which indicate inflammation.

Hi,
If pus cells were found, it is an indication of inflammation. Infection is one of the causes.
As said earlier, some amount of mucus is normal.
For the information you have given and the picture I would consider it as normal and ignore it.
