I have read your query and gone through x-ray pictures.It looks from x rays that child should not have SCFE. SCFE is more common with children who are obese, having hypothyroidism or other endocrinology problems.
I am with opinion of your consultant that child should be on rest from excess physical activities.

Many thanks for your reply, maybe a silly question but can I ask what the purpose of rest is, if there is nothing sinister going on. I dont quite understand why they are making him rest with no diagnoses of anything wrong.
My son is on the autism spectrum and is quite down not being able to play football

It looks that your son may be suffering from tendonitis of muscles of anterior. In tendonitis, there is a need of rest for relief from inflammation and pain.
