Test for FACTOR V LEIDEN MUTATION with high D DIMER.

Resolved Question:

Hello, I am a 27 year old, pregnant, Caucasian female. Long story short, 4 years ago I suffered leg pains, d dimer were elevated, but no blood clot. I followed up w/ a hematologist who performed a thrombosis assessment panel. (results are attached) All levels were normal, even d dimers. He said I had no elevated risk of blood clot development. A sister of mine was diagnosed with factor v leiden, however we share the same father but different mothers. Her factor v leiden was shown to be from the maternal side only. I am now pregnant and seeing the same obgyn as her. He wanted to make sure I didn't have facto v leiden as well. So I gave him the test results, but he doesn't specifically see if I was tested for factor v leiden, however he was not sure if that's just included but not specified. I remember the hematologist saying some tests aren't performed if the first tests are normal as they eliminate the need for the consequential test. Isn't factor v leiden a general mutation they test for in a thrombosis panel?

So, since all my proteins...etc etc were normal can I safely assume that based on these test results I do not have factor v leiden mutation?

Hello. Thank you for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
All your reports are within normal limits. You had a history of leg pains but I assume there were no clots, nor any bleeding symptoms any time.
Your doctor may suspect you have factor V Leiden if:
You have your first clotting incidence before age 50
You have a family history of the disorder
You've had two or more blood-clotting incidents
You're a woman who's had recurrent miscarriages or unexplained pregnancy complications
You've had blood clots in unusual areas, such as your liver or brain
Since all your results are normal, I do not see the need to further explore for a coagulation defect.
Feel free to discuss further,
Regards

Do the test results I uploaded show testing for factor v leiden. It says Protein C/Factor V. Is that the factor v leiden test?

Thank you for writing to us again.
Yes. that is the screening test which rules out this condition in your case.
