What causes itching beneath ear drum and upper part of mouth?

Resolved Question:

Is there something beneath your ear drum and above the upper part of your mouth that can itch? It feels like my ear itches (the farthest a q-tip can reach, and always on the bottom). But I can "scratch" it using a tooth brush on my upper palate, near the back. I can hold my nose and blow, like you do on an air plane to "scratch". Blowing my nose lessens the itch. It's seasonal, and loosely correlated to my allergies. Allergy medicine gets rid of my allergies and doesn't affect this. I've had this for almost ten years now. Some anti-itch creams work (applied with a q-tip), some don't. It has nothing to do with too little or too much ear-wax, I've tried dealing with it both ways. It doesn't feel like it's my ears, or my mouth, but the areas in between. It's a pretty strong itch, I've never had a worse itch than this gets sometimes.

The cause of your itch and discomfort seems to be from eustachean tube dysfunction. Eustachean tube is connective tube between ear and behind the nose and is located where your itch seems to be. Abnormal closure of eustachean tube causes pressure changes in ear and can cause itching. This tube may get blocked because of excess secretions which occur when you have an allergy. So nasal allergy may cause nasal secretions which may in turn block this tube.



Usually it may improves with anti-allergy medication. Valsalva maneuver(trying to blow out air with closed mouth and nose) will also helps.

You can use Mometasone (Metaspray) nasal spray, in consult with your doctor. This is more effective in allergies. You can use this nasal spray for 6 weeks.



Also you can do steam inhalation regularly, about 2-3 times which will help clear the blockage.
