Bump over crowning of the tooth with fluid and blood.

Resolved Question:

Hi. I had some irritation above a tooth... It is the first molar. I have a crown on that tooth. After that a bump appeared, very similar looking to a pimple. I was worried that it was some sort of problem. I actually about three weeks ago "popped" it. A little bit of fluid and blood came out. I have been rinsing with warm salt water for about 10 days and sometimes it seems that the problem would subside, then I'd wake up, another bump on the same spot would appear. I'd pop it and then it all happens over again. There isn't really any pain associated with this. I am curious what it is, is it treatable? Or is it some sort of virus or mouth disease. I took a picture only phone but it is hard to get oneextremely clear. The photo of this one appears more red like a blood blister than previous ones. This has been going on for about 4-6 weeks...

Thank you for your query at

The recurrent bump you have is a sinus opening. Sinus is an abnormal tract/ comminucation. You seem to have such a sinus between your molar tooth cavity which is opening out on your gum. A sinus can form when there is an infection in the associated tooth.

You need to consult your Dentist and get an X-Ray done for the tooth with the crown. It may require a root canal treatment, if not already done.

If a already root canal treatment has already been done, it means that the tooth is re-infected and requires re-treatment or even complete extraction, if that tooth is severely infected.

Usually the sinus opening heals once tooth is treated or removed.
