COLD INTOLERANT, bluish skin in morning. Cause besides THYROIDS?

Resolved Question:

Hi, just wondering if there is anything else besides thyroids that would make me so cold intolerant, and when I mean cold I mean cold, I've also noticed lately that my large toes are quite often bluish in color in the morning under the nail and occasionally part of the toe. Any connection to the cold intolerance?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Yes, there are other causes of cold intolerance apart from the thyroid disorder. Some other causes of cold intolerance could be due to fibromyalgia, anemia, malnutrition, Raynaud's syndrome, hypothalamic dysfunction, where thermogenesis is not proper and in some cases of Addison's disease
Since you gave a history of your toes turning cold and bluish, it sounds more like a Raynaud's syndrome where the peripheries turn blue on slight exposure to cold due to vasoconstriction.
Did you ever get it examined by your physician? I recommend next time it happens you get it examined to confirm the diagnosis.
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards.

Patient replied :

my feet are not cold when the toenails turn blue, the rest of me is freezing and yes I have a history of hypertension, although that has been well controlled for several years.

Hello,
It does sound like Raynaud's syndrome and it needs to be examined by a physician to confirm the diagnosis.
In most primary cases, there is no attributable cause for Raynaud's and it is advised that the patients avoid caffeine and smoking which increases the chances of developing the symptoms.
Also, sometimes it can be associated with other connective tissue disorders such as Scleroderma, SLE, e.t.c, however that is not the case for you.
Regards.
