MOVICOL for constipation with CYSTIC FIBROSIS.

Resolved Question:

hi i have cystic fibrosis and recently found out that i am constipated all the time. everytime i have a bowel movement it feels like there is still stuff to come out, it always feels full and my lower abdomen particularly the lower right part sticks out. last week i had a very busy week with work and only had 4-5 hours sleep every night, when the weekend came i got to have a real sleep. i got 6 hours of sleep then woke up and had a large bowel movement then went straight back to bed, i got another 4 hours sleep and again as soon as i woke up i had another large bowel movement and went straight back to bed. the same again after getting 2 hours sleep and when i woke again my tummy felt clear for the second time ever in my life (im 27 years old patientold). and all this time i thought i might be a little overweight even though i had defined abdominal muscles (i exercise a lot both weights & cardio & play rugby). my tummy was completely flat and felt totally cleared.

i have had a similar experience once when i was younger and experimented with ecstacy and stayed up for 2 days partying (and not eating) and when i woke up i noticed i had no feelings of fullness in my tummy and again it was completely flat

i have seen my dr today and they have given me movicol, i tried one sachet and had a bowel movement some hours later but still have the feeling of not being totally cleared. should i up the movicol dose or try it for a few more days before doing so? what do you recomend? regards

Hello.
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
I read your post about constipation and about taking movicol.
You need not up the dose on the second day itself.
You can take the same dose for one more day.
On day three compare your stool with the Bristol chart. You can see the chart in the following link -
http://www.bowelcontrol.nih.gov/Bristol.aspx
If your stool is Type 1 or 2 you can increase the dose. If it is Type 3 or 4, you continue with the same dose.
I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
