Symptoms of UTI, back pain. Spread to KIDNEYS?

My girlfriend had symptoms of a UTI. She went to her doctor yesterday, who took a urinalysis. The doctor prescribed Cipro 500, 2x a day. The urinalysis results are attached. She is very concerned though, because she started to have very bad back pain yesterday. She feels a little better today, but still has back pain. Our fear is a spread to the kidneys. Are her symptoms normal? Should she go to the emergency room, or wait until her follow up appointment tomorrow? This is her first time getting a UTI. It likely was caused by sexual activity. Furthermore, are there steps we can take in the future to prevent UTI?

The back pain has probably happened because of urinary tract infection and should settle down. However if it persists then you should get ultrasound done to rule out stone disease.
Urinary tract infection has probably happened because of several activity as you have also mentioned. There is no fool proof method of preventing the infection. The infection usually happens because of lesser of lubrication prior to intercourse and the resultant trauma to local tissues. You can indulge into longer foreplay so that both of you get well lubricated and also use condom for at least next few weeks.
