COARSE LIVER WITH FAT INFILTRATION after frequent infections.

Resolved Question:

My 3yo Son has suffered from health problems since 8 months old. He battled frequent bacterial and viral infections till 18 months with 6 hospitalisations in that period. Found out he suffers from a platelet function disorder.

His LFTs were extremely high while sick and slowly rose over a 12 month period and the slowly declined to normal.

The past 12 months he's been better but a liver scan showed a coarse liver with fat infiltration and enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes.

Bloods were ok apart from low BSL of 2.8.

His moods dramatically change during a day, one minute he's ok the next it's like he hits a wall.

Any idea on what's causing this liver issue and mood change? Could it be related to the liver?

Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.

Dear Parent,
I can understand your concern.
Platelet function disorders associated with immunodeficiency can be WISKOTT-ALDRICH syndrome.
Is that what your son has?
Platelet function disorders generally present with bleeding tendencies. Does your son have those as well, an increased tendency to bleed?
Can you please specify what you are referring to as his BSL? Is it his blood sugar levels or lipase or something else? I am not used to that acronym.
What about his growth parameters ? What is his weight/ height for age?
What are his AST/ALT/Bilirubin/Albumin values?
Do you have any family history of such platelet disorders? How many siblings does he have?
Mood swings and liver problems can also be a manifestation of WILSON's disease. Has he been evaluated for the same?

More information regarding his infections, his underlying platelet dysfunction as well as his liver function should help. I would be able to guide you any further only if you can send me all his medical records/reports.
Please upload the same in the follow-up or email to [email protected] mentioning consult ID : 216992 in the subject line.

Awaiting your response.
